Jaguar F-Type, Jaguar’s first sprotscar in 50 years

Jaguar’s management (Adrian Hallmark, Global Brand Director) announced that the F-Type is Jaguar’s first sportscar in 50 years. So you might ask “How about the XKR?”. And that is a good question, and the answer is that the XKR is really a grand touring car. It is too heavy to be a true sportscar.

The F-Type is designed by Ian Callum, who is also the designer of Aston Martin DB9, DBS as well as the current Jaguar XK series.

Three models are available; the F-Type, the F-Type S and F-Type V8 S.

F-TYPE
The base F-Type comes with a new 3.0-liter V6, developed from Jaguar’s highly acclaimed 5.0-litre V8, develops 340 HP. Even this base engine is a free revving motor and it encourages enthusiastic driving. The 340 HP V6 accelerates to 60 mph in 5.1 seconds (0-100km/h in 5.3 seconds) and on to an electronically limited top speed of 161 mph (260km/h), while emitting just 209g/km of CO2.

F-TYPE S
This model is equipped with the same 3.0 liter engine in a different tune-up, and it develops 380 HP. The extra power makes this an even more appropriate car for the enthusiast. The 380 HP V6 covers the 0-60mph sprint in 4.8 seconds (0-100km/h in 4.9 seconds) and has an electronically limited top speed of 171mph (275km/h), with CO2 emissions of 213g/km.

F-TYPE V8 S
Jaguar’s F-type S V8 engine produces 495 HP and 625 Nm of torque. Its astonishing torque-to-weight ratio of 375Nm/ton, helps the car accelerate from zero to 60 mph in 4.2 seconds (0-100km/h in 4.3 seconds) and on to an electronically limited top speed of 186mph (300km/h) while emitting 259g/km of CO2.

One Response to Jaguar F-Type, Jaguar’s first sprotscar in 50 years

  1. This car has been missing from Jaguars’ line-up for too many years.
It needed a real sports car to compete with Porsche and Ferrari, not just GT touring cars. I want mine with a manual gearbox.
This could help them back former glory.

    I like it!
